Not Trusting God?
Q. Does it show lack of trust in God to prepare for terrorism? Should a Christian stockpile supplies, water, and medication? I have a feeling something awful is going to happen and I should be ready.
God Speaks through Authorities
One of the ways God speaks to us or counsels us is through those in authority over us (see Romans 13: 1-6 and 1 Peter 2:13). In this sense the Department of Homeland Security suggests all Americans have a two-week survival kit in the event of disaster or terrorism. So it seems that emergency preparation is a type of obedience to God. It is wise for believers and churches to have a basic disaster plan in place.
Do not Presume upon God
"The prudent sees the evil and hides himself, but the naive go on, and are punished for it" (Prov. 22:3). Equating "preparation" to not trusting God is to presume upon God. Certainly Joseph prepared for disaster and saved his nation and family in the process. In other words, faith is not foolhardiness. God gives us the wisdom to take precautions.
Do not Worry about Anything
However, no Christian is to worry or fret about terrorism. The Bible tells us:
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God…will guard your hearts and minds…" (Philippians 4:6).
No Weapon against you will Prosper
Here is another verse to remember: "No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper" (Isaiah 54:17).
God decides when we Die
Besides, no terrorist on earth can take your life apart from God's will. Psalm 139:16 says, "All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be."
We can Trust God for our Future
"Even though He slay me yet will I trust Him" (Job 13:15).
