Phones, TV&Computers Evil ?

Do you think the Phone or the TV is a tool of the devil? My grandma does.

In finding our answer from the Bible we need to look at passages that talk about how we communicate with people. In Bible times people usually communicated with others by visiting people in their homes. Here is one passage that mentions doing the same thing as using phones today:

"At the same time they also learn to be idle, as they go around from house to house; and not merely idle, but also gossips and busybodies, talking about things not proper to mention" (1 Timothy 5:13, NASB).

Probably the closest thing to the "phone" in the Bible is when the apostle Paul told women not to "go around from house to house" gossiping about others. By using a phone we can easily "travel" from house to house talking about things we shouldn't. In that sense the phone could be a tool for evil.

Psalm 101: 2b-3a is a good example of something like our modern day TV:

"I will walk within my
house in the integrity
of my heart.
I will set no worthless
thing before my eyes

Watching TV is often like purposely putting a "worthless thing before my eyes."

For that matter many people think using a computer is the tool of the devil, too. So we all just need to be careful about what we say or hear and about what we look at as we go about our daily lives. Your grandma may be "old-fashioned," but maybe there's some truth in what she says!
