The Enemy of My Enemy
The Enemy of My Enemy Is My Friend
Israel, the Church, and Yahweh/Jesus’ War Against Cosmic Rebellion
Introduction
The history of Scripture is not fundamentally the story of nations, religions, or civilizations. It is the story of a cosmic war. From Eden to the New Jerusalem, the central conflict is between Yahweh/Jesus and the powers that rebelled against His rule.
The rebellion began in the heavenly realm and spread into the earthly realm. Spiritual beings rejected Yahweh/Jesus’ authority, humanity joined the revolt, and the nations were drawn into a system of deception that fragmented the created order. The result was chaos, corruption, idolatry, death, and exile from Eden.
Everything that follows in Scripture is Yahweh/Jesus’ answer to that rebellion.
The Common Enemy
The enemies of Yahweh/Jesus are not merely human governments or earthly institutions. They are the interconnected forces of rebellion that operate in both heaven and earth.
These enemies include:
- Satan, the great adversary.
- The rebel Watchers and their offspring.
- The rebellious sons of God who established corrupt rule over the nations.
- The rebellious nations that reject Yahweh/Jesus’ authority.
- The pagan religions that perpetuate false worship and allegiance to competing spiritual powers.
Although these enemies manifest themselves differently throughout history, they are united by a single objective: opposition to Yahweh/Jesus’ kingdom.
Their purpose is to corrupt creation, deceive humanity, fragment God’s people, and prevent the restoration of Eden.
Yahweh/Jesus’ Counterattack: The Creation of Israel
After Babel, the nations were divided and assigned under lesser divine powers. Humanity was dispersed into a fractured world system characterized by idolatry and spiritual darkness.
Yahweh/Jesus’ response was not retreat.
Yahweh/Jesus created Israel.
Israel did not emerge merely as an ethnic group. Israel was a supernatural act of divine intervention intended to reclaim the nations. Through Abraham and his descendants, Yahweh/Jesus established His own covenant nation in direct opposition to the powers ruling the nations.
Israel was designed to be:
- A kingdom of priests (Exodus 19:5-6)
- A holy nation (Exodus 19:5-6)
- A blessing to all nations (Genesis 12:1-3)
- A testimony that Yahweh/Jesus alone is King
From the beginning, Israel existed as a weapon, an army in Yahweh/Jesus’ war against cosmic rebellion.
Yahweh/Jesus’ Counterattack: The Creation of the Church
The coming of Jesus intensified and focused the conflict.
Jesus entered territory controlled by the powers of darkness and openly challenged their authority. His ministry was an invasion of occupied territory. Every conversion, exorcism, miracle, healing, and proclamation of the Kingdom announced the same message:
The reign of the rebel powers was ending.
The death and resurrection of Jesus shattered the legal authority of the powers and opened the nations to reclamation.
The Church was then created as a new supernatural people empowered by the Holy Spirit.
Just as Israel was formed to challenge the rule of the rebel powers, the Church was formed to expand Yahweh/Jesus’ Kingdom into every nation on earth.
The Church exists to:
- Proclaim the Gospel to all nations (Matthew 28:18-20)
- Make disciples of all peoples (Matthew 28:18-20)
- Demonstrate the reign of Yahweh/Jesus
- Continue Messiah’s mission of reclaiming the nations
The Church is not a replacement army. It is in fact a second front in the same war.
One King, One Mission, One Enemy
The greatest mistake is to view Israel and the Church as enemies of one another.
That assumption serves the interests of the powers of darkness.
Israel and the Church have the same King.
Israel and the Church serve the same Creator.
Israel and the Church confront the same enemies.
Israel and the Church exist for the same mission:
- Advancing the reign of Yahweh/Jesus throughout the earth.
- Opposing spiritual rebellion and paganism.
- Bearing witness to the nations.
- Calling humanity back into covenant relationship with God.
- Reclaiming territory held by the powers of darkness.
- Participating in the restoration of creation.
Though their roles are not identical, their purpose originates from the same divine throne. The powers that rebelled against Yahweh/Jesus do not distinguish between Israel and the Church. They oppose both.
Therefore, from a cosmic geographical perspective, Israel and the Church are allies in the same conflict.
The enemy of one is the enemy of the other.
The Problem of Unfaithfulness
Neither Israel nor the Church can claim perfect obedience.
Israel repeatedly:
- Pursued idols.
- Rejected covenant loyalty.
- Adopted the practices of the nations.
The Church repeatedly:
- Compromised with worldly systems.
- Tolerated false teachings.
- Neglected its mission.
The failures are real. Yet the failures do not negate Yahweh/Jesus’ commitment.
Divine faithfulness is not dependent upon human consistency.
Hosea and Gomer: The Pattern of Redemption
The story of Hosea and Gomer reveals the character of Yahweh/Jesus.
Gomer repeatedly abandoned her husband.
Hosea repeatedly pursued and redeemed her.
The point of the story is not the greatness of Gomer’s faithfulness.
The point is the greatness of Yahweh’s loyal love, His hesed.
Israel has wandered.
The Church has wandered.
Yet Yahweh/Jesus continues to call both back to Himself.
The covenant faithfulness of God is greater than the rebellion of His people.
Both Israel and the Church are:
- Loved.
- Pursued.
- Disciplined.
- Restored.
- Called back into service.
All by the same divine Bridegroom.
The Division Is Temporary
One of the greatest accomplishments of the rebellious powers has been division. The kingdom of darkness has always sought to divide what Yahweh/Jesus intends to unite. The rebellion began by separating humanity from God in Eden. It continued by dividing humanity at Babel. Throughout history the powers have employed the same strategy repeatedly because division weakens resistance and obscures God’s purposes.
This strategy has also been directed against both Israel and the Church.
For centuries they have existed as distinct peoples with different callings, histories, and experiences. Each has experienced periods of blindness, disobedience, and misunderstanding. Yet beneath these divisions lies an unchanging reality:
- They serve the same King.
- They worship the same Yahweh/Jesus.
- They are sustained by the same covenant faithfulness.
- They exist for the same ultimate purpose.
The powers understand this reality far better than most people do. The powers know:
- Yahweh/Jesus has never abandoned Israel.
- Yahweh/Jesus will never abandon His Church.
- The same God who called Abraham and raised Jesus from the dead is directing history toward a predetermined conclusion.
What terrifies them is not the existence of Israel.
What terrifies them is not the existence of the Church.
What terrifies them is their eventual unity in the hands of Yahweh/Jesus.
The powers fear:
- The day Israel fully embraces her Messiah.
- The day the Church fully embraces her calling.
- The day every barrier erected by rebellion finally collapses.
- The day Yahweh/Jesus unites His covenant people under His authority.
For what is divided can be opposed. What is united under Yahweh/Jesus cannot be stopped.
Scriptural Evidence for the Unity of Israel and the Church
Ezekiel’s Prophecy of One People
Ezekiel 37:15-28
- Two sticks representing divided peoples become one in God’s hand.
- One nation is formed.
- One king rules over them.
- One covenant of peace is established.
This reveals Yahweh/Jesus’ intention to reunite His people under one ruler.
One Shepherd Over One Flock
John 10:14-16
- Jesus speaks of sheep from another fold.
- Distinct groups are gathered together.
- All become one flock.
- All follow one Shepherd.
The Reunification of Heaven and Earth
Ephesians 1:9-10
- Yahweh/Jesus intends to unite all things in Messiah.
- Things in heaven and earth are brought together.
- The fragmentation caused by rebellion is reversed.
Gentiles Brought Into the Commonwealth of Israel
Ephesians 2:11-22
- Gentiles are brought near.
- The dividing wall is removed.
- One new humanity is created.
- Both groups become members of God’s household.
- Both have access to the Father through one Spirit.
The Natural and Wild Olive Branches
Romans 11:11-24
- Israel is represented by natural branches.
- Gentile believers are represented by wild branches.
- Both share the same root.
- Both belong to the same tree.
- God is able to restore the natural branches.
There are not two trees. There is one.
The Fulfillment of Hosea
Hosea 1:10; Hosea 2:23; Romans 9:24-26
- Those once called “not my people” become “my people.”
- Restoration extends beyond exile.
- The covenant family expands according to God’s plan.
One Body in Messiah
1 Corinthians 12:12-13
- Many members.
- One body.
- One Spirit.
- One Messiah.
Abraham’s Family Expanded
Galatians 3:7-9, 26-29
- Believers become Abraham’s offspring.
- Believers inherit the promises.
- The family of faith expands through Messiah.
The New Covenant
Jeremiah 31:31-34 Luke 22:20
- The New Covenant is promised to Israel and Judah.
- Jesus establishes that covenant through His blood.
- Covenant promises find fulfillment in Messiah.
The New Jerusalem
Revelation 21:9-14
- Twelve gates bear the names of Israel’s tribes.
- Twelve foundations bear the names of the Apostles.
- The eternal city joins both realities together.
- The dwelling place of God includes both covenant witnesses.
Why This Terrifies the Powers
The rebellious powers understand these promises.
They fear:
- Ezekiel’s two sticks becoming one in the hand of Yahweh/Jesus.
- One flock under one Shepherd.
- One body under one Head.
- Natural and wild branches flourishing on the same tree.
- The New Jerusalem where Israel and the Apostolic Church stand together.
- The collapse of every division they have spent millennia creating.
The powers thrive through fragmentation.
Yahweh/Jesus triumphs through restoration.
The ultimate nightmare of Satan, the rebel Watchers, the corrupt powers ruling the nations, and the pagan religious systems is not merely the existence of Israel or the Church independently. It is the fulfillment of Yahweh/Jesus’ plan to unite His covenant people under:
- One King.
- One Kingdom.
- One Spirit.
- One Mission.
When what was divided becomes one in the hand of Yahweh/Jesus, the rebellion reaches its end.
The Restoration of Eden
The story of Scripture begins in Eden and ends in a restored creation where heaven and earth are united under the reign of Yahweh/Jesus.
The serpent’s rebellion will be undone.
The rebel Watchers will face judgment.
The corrupt powers ruling the nations will be removed.
The pagan systems that deceived humanity will collapse.
Death itself will be abolished.
The nations will be healed.
The earth will once again become the dwelling place of God among His people.
This has always been the objective of Yahweh/Jesus.
- Israel was created for this purpose.
- The Church was created for this purpose.
- The Gospel exists for this purpose.
- The war against cosmic rebellion is fought for this purpose.
In the end, Israel and the Church will stand together beneath the banner of Yahweh/Jesus.
What rebellion divided, Yahweh/Jesus will unite.
What chaos shattered, Yahweh/Jesus will restore.
What Satan corrupted, Yahweh/Jesus will heal.
This is why the powers tremble.
They know:
- The King is returning.
- His people are being gathered.
- Their rebellion is ending.
- The nations are being reclaimed.
- The created order is being healed.
And they know that when Yahweh/Jesus unites Israel and the Church in His hand, the restoration of Eden will be unstoppable.
Conclusion
The cosmic conflict that began in Eden and intensified at Babel will end exactly as Yahweh/Jesus has decreed. The enemies of God, whether heavenly rebels, corrupt nations, false religions, or Satan himself, have sought to divide, deceive, and destroy. Yet every act of rebellion ultimately serves to highlight the faithfulness of Yahweh/Jesus.
Israel and the Church stand as His supernatural instruments within history. Though both have stumbled, both remain loved. Though both have been divided, both are being gathered. Though both have endured periods of unfaithfulness, neither has escaped the pursuing love of Yahweh/Jesus.
The powers of this world know what many humans fail to see: when Yahweh/Jesus completes His work, Israel and the Church will stand together as one covenant people under one King. Their unity will testify that rebellion has failed, the Kingdom has triumphed, and creation is being restored.
The enemies of Yahweh/Jesus fear that day because they know its meaning and they know it is coming soon.
Their kingdom ends.
His Kingdom remains forever.
And Eden returns.
