Memorize Scripture
What can we refer to quickly when disasters occur? By committing some of these verses to memory we have them “on file” in our brains when terrible problems occur.
Nuts & Bolts
Remember that the God who sustains and holds together magnificent galaxies also controls the nuts and bolts of your car and the 2X4’s of your house.
Cosmic Glue
The Cosmic Glue, sometimes refered to as “Zero Point Energy” is under God’s control.
…in Him all things hold together (Col. 1:17).
Where was God?
God is in disasters, too:
“I form the light and create darkness. I make well-being and create calamity. I, the Lord, do all these things” (Isa. 45:7).
Living in Hostile Territory
Remember that we live in hostile territory…
“And the devil took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, and said to him, ‘To you I will give all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will” (Luke 4:5-6 ESV).
Our Current Star Wars
Star Wars in Parallel Universes…
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places” (Eph. 6:12 ESV).
Entropy
Second Law of Thermodynamics…All creation is subject to the curse of aging. …“the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay (death)…For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together…” (Ro. 8:21-22).
Clock
God did not wind up creation like a clock and leave… We are not deists. There are no “acts of nature” outside of God’s sovereignty.
Mother Nature?
“He unleashes his lightning…He says to the snow, fall on the earth,…The breath of God produces ice…he scatters his lightning…He brings the clouds to punish men, or to water his earth and show his love,” (Job 37:3,6,10-13).
Holy not Happy
We are not here to always be happy… We are here to become like His Son. His Son suffered, died and rose. The Christian’s hope is that we too will suffer, die and then rise again… (Sure beats impersonal cloning in our near future)!
“For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.” (Ro. 8:29 ESV).
Faith from Word of God Alone
Sometimes faith and trust come from the Word of God alone… “God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose,”(Ro. 8:28).
