Q. My sister and brother-in-law keep bringing up reasons they don’t believe in God or the Bible. They especially ridicule the virgin birth because they think Mary just had a child out of wedlock and made up that her baby was special. They know I’m a believer who goes to church and studies the Word every day. What should I do?
Answer:
Artificial Insemination
The idea of a virgin birth is not a difficult thing to believe anymore. Any woman can bear a child if she wants without ever touching a man. If doctors can artificially inseminate a woman – in other words, cause a virgin to become pregnant – then certainly a powerful Holy God can cause a virgin birth! The new science of cloning even eliminates the need for a male seed.
Pointless Debates
Debates over Bible truths are usually pointless unless God quickens the heart. We are told in 1 Corinthians 2:14 that the natural man doesn’t accept the things of the Spirit of God because they are spiritually discerned. (I have to warn you that this particular passage infuriates many non believers. An unsaved person does not even begin to understand this Scripture until after he or she is saved).

Avoid religious debates with persons who are not genuinely interested in why Christians believe what they do, but are more interested in ridiculing or rejecting our faith. Instead, add them to your prayer list that God will indeed open their hearts. Prayer is the most active, powerful thing you can do.
