| Asking Incessantly When is it Enough?  Q. My best friend is a New Ager who keeps asking questions about my faith. I have given him at least 15 excellent books on apologetics – really good ones I’ve seen recommended on your website. But, he still keeps asking things over and over. Advice?Answer: I’ve come across people like this, too. One was a New Ager who seemed to accept everything she read on our website. The problem is she also accepted everything from books in the New Age section of a local bookstore, too! In other words, she could not discriminate between ideas of reason and ideas of emotion. She consulted psychics, mediums, so-called prophets, hotlines, horoscopes, daily bible readings, and everything else coming her way. Apostle Paul’s Warning There is a point at which we cannot help people. Paul warns that in the last days people will be “boastful, proud, ungrateful.” “They will consider nothing sacred.” “They will be puffed up with pride” (2 Tim. 3:1-5, NLT). Always Learning – Never Knowing Truth Paul continues by stating many of these people “are forever following new teachings, but they are never able to understand the truth” (v. 7).  Perpetual LearnersIn other words, there are people who are perpetual learners who are unable or unwilling to come to a saving knowledge of God’s truth. They cannot commit to anything. Paul suggests we “stay away from people like that” (v. 5). I can’t tell you when to stop answering your friend’s questions. But, I suggest you pray for him and consider not giving him any more literature or answers after a period of about two years. At that point you can put him in God’s hands – and rest – knowing you did what you could. The rest is up to him. |
